My daughter has not been to Ipoh before. My wife and I had little impression of Ipoh since we visited Ipoh 40 years ago. We decided to go for a 4 days 3 nights free and easy short trip to Ipoh. There were 5 persons on this trip (My wife sister and her husband, my wife, my daughter and me) . Cantonese and Mandarin are the common language used in Ipoh. If you can speak either Cantonese or Mandarin then you have no problem to communicate with the local people.

We left Singapore to Ipoh by budget airline Tiger Air. By the way, Tiger Air had merged with Scoot budget airline for commercial reason. Both airlines are the subsidiaries of the parent company, The Singapore airline. The flight from Singapore to Ipoh was 1 hour. The moment our plane touched down at Ipoh airport we were welcome by a heavy downpour. The Ipoh airport ground staff handed us with umbrellas. We had to walked a short distance on the tarmac to the arrival building. No taxi was waiting out side the airport building. We went to the airport taxi counter and requested the staff to phone for taxi. The taxi fare from the airport to our hotel was RM 30 which was a 10 minutes drive. I understood that this was the standard fare charged. After checking in to the French Hotel we went straight to a near by Chinese restaurant for dinner. We were lucky to get a table as we realised that all the tables were fully booked.
After dinner we went for a stroll and had our dessert at a hawker stall.

The 4 days 3 nights short trip to Ipoh was very relaxing and enjoyable. The local food suits our taste bud and the pricing was very reasonable. The cost of food sold in the Ipoh cafe restaurant were equivalent to Singapore food court pricing. Cost of transport was reasonable too with the Grab car service. From the French Hotel to a shopping mall, we paid RM 4. And fare to the airport was RM 17. The Grab car service was good and efficient. Most of the Grab car drivers were working on part time. One of the young Grab car driver told us that he was a property agent. He made extra income in between his appointment.
